Jose Woldring-Walker to 1.30m win: ‘Jumping Amsterdam is the most exciting competition of the year”
Jose Woldring-Walker just won the Stal Bosgoed Prize with the eight-year-old mare Charleyna VI VI (by Harley VDL) at Jumping Amsterdam. She was the last starter in the jump-off and did everything she could to take the win. Her clear jump-off in a time of 34.02 seconds was more than enough for the win. Tessa Delger signed for the second place with the seven-year-old KWPN-bred Melodie V (by Aganix du Seigneur). The rider did not touch the wood with the breeding product of J. Verburgt and set a time of 34.40 seconds on the scoreboard. Nicole Botma completed the top three with the 14-year-old Napoli PP Z (by Numero Uno). The pair finished clear in 36.42 seconds.
Big stride
“I am super happy,” said an enthusiastic Jose Woldring. “This win is really fantastic and my horse jumped great. I liked starting last because then you know what the other combinations did. I did take advantage of that. I saw the ones that rode before me. On the scoreboard I could see the standings. I knew I had to ride as fast as I could, but that I didn’t have to do very crazy things to win. My horse has a big stride, so then you do get to the obstacles faster.”
‘She really feels like a Ferrari’
Jose has not been a combination with Charleyna for so long. “I’ve been riding her for six months now. We first got to know each other at home. I rode her in three competitions. Earlier this year I rode her internationally for the first time at IICH Groningen. That went well and then you trust each other right away. This is really amazing. She is a very special horse. She is easy to ride. She has a lot of blood and is always forward. She really feels like a Ferrari. I have a very good click with her, also at the barn. You don’t always ride horses like this. I hope I can be a combination with her for many more years.”
‘Most exciting competition of the year’
Jose Woldring has ridden at Jumping Amsterdam several times before. “This morning I also started a horse in the 1.35m, so then I could get into the rhythm. My horses are not used to riding in this entourage. I live around the corner, so I didn’t have to get up so early. It’s the most exciting competition of the year for me. I can invite all my friends and family.”
