IJsbrand Chardon (NED) has won the fourth leg of the FEI World Cup™ Driving 2013/2014 in Budapest, Hungary. Chardon drove his experienced team of Lipizzaner horses to victory ahead of his compatriot and European Champion Theo Timmerman and local favourite József Dobrovitz (HUN).

Hungarian O-course designer Gábor Fintha had laid out a very nice course in the Lászlo Papp Sports Arena with fast and technical parts, which was much appreciated by the drivers.

Back to basics
After a less than satisfactory first competition in Budapest on Saturday evening, Chardon decided to go back to basics and switched his new leader horse, with which he finished third in Hannover, for the experienced Inci. This resulted in two amazing clear rounds, which contributed to a fantastic atmosphere in the arena, and Chardon and his team of Hungarian Lipizzaner horses had great support from the enthusiastic spectators, many of which had seen him win the FEI World Cup™ Driving in 2012. And this time he finished more than 23 penalty seconds ahead of Timmerman and Dobrovitz.

According to plan
Theo Timmerman had set himself the goal of using the first competition in Hannover and his wild card start in Verona to get into the right rhythm for his next four events. After his fifth place in Hannover and his second place in Verona, his aim was to do well in Budapest.

He started off very fast in the first round and an unfortunate ball off the last cone luckily did not stop him qualifying for the Winning Round, in which he was second to go. The reigning European and Dutch Champion has been driving his indoor team for several years now and the experience was paying off. After a flying start, Timmerman slowed down a bit after he had a knock down in the second marathon obstacle and he finished just over one second faster than Dobrovitz, securing his second place.

New leader horse
József Dobrovitz, who is from the town of Vecsés, around 20 kilometers away from Budapest, had strong local support. He qualified for the Winning Round despite knocking two balls in the first round, thanks to the magnificent high speed of his team. The successful Hungarian driver used a new Lipizzaner horse in the lead of his team, but the speed resulted in another two knockdowns, and he had to settle for third place.

Safe round
Stuttgart-winner Daniel Schneiders decided to go for a safe round. He took his mixed team of German, Dutch and English horses through the course at a good speed, but unfortunately had one ball down, to finish in fourth place.

Family affair
Fifth place went to József Dobrovitz junior who, like his father, also drove a new horse in the lead of his team. József’s nephews, Mark and Kristof Osztertág, both received a wild card in Budapest, resulting in a true family affair, with four Dobrovitz family members on the start list.Kristof, who finished sixth in Budapest, competed as an individual at the FEI European four-in-hand Championships in Izsák and competed in the horse pairs and pony pairs classes this season. The 21-year-old was also a member of the bronze-medal-winning Hungarian team at the FEI World Pony Championships in Pau (FRA), where he finished 15th individually.His 23-year old brother Mark came seventh. He drove both a pair and a four-in-hand this season, competed as an individual at the FEI World Pair Championships in Topolcianky (SVK) and at the FEI European four-in-hand Championships in Izsák (HUN).

Het succes van de ‘Jumping Amsterdammertjes’ die tijdens Jumping Amsterdam 2013 te bewonderen waren en waarvan alle unieke exemplaren in een mum van tijd waren verkocht, heeft kunstenares Jose Loeve geinspireerd tot een nieuw ontwerp.

De levensgrote Kunstpaarden en een nieuwe serie ‘Jumping Amsterdammertjes’, beschilderd door nieuwe kunstenaars, zijn tijdens de komende editie van Jumping in het illustere gezelschap van een nieuw design: ‘Het Hilversummertje’. Met een knipoog naar de media ontwierp José Loeviera op basis van dit thema een nieuwe sculptuur ’Het Hilversummertje’. NOS STUDIO SPORT zendt de Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage en de Grote Prijs van Amsterdam uit en in dat licht is de link met de beroemde Televisietoren van Hilversum gauw gelegd.

Alle sculpturen zijn beschilderd door verschillende bekende kunstenaars: Menno Baars, Marion Bakker, Monique Boutens, Ansjel van Brakel, Josette Caelen, Antoinette van Herpen, José Loeviera, Anneke Janszen, Mirthe Kolkman, Ninon van der Sande, Jacques Tange, Yvon van Wordragen, Emmie Kaas, Xena en anderen.

Patrik Kittel heeft zich afgemeld voor de FEI wereldbekerwedstrijd in Stockholm. Zijn KWPN-hengst Scandic (Solos Carex) heeft zich geblesseerd. ‘Hij is in de aquatrainer geweest en de volgende dag was een been wat opgelopen. Of de blessure ontstaan is in de aquatrainer of ‘s nachts op stal weten we niet. Gelukkig is hij niet kreupel, maar de zwelling moet behandeld worden. Hij krijgt sowieso een paar dagen rust. Jammer genoeg kan ik dus niet in actie komen op een van mijn favoriete concoursen’, aldus de Zweedse ruiter. Kittel is komend weekend wel in Stockholm om zijn leerlingen te helpen. Maar liefst vier dressuurruiters die hij onder zijn hoede heeft doen mee aan de Grand Prix, bijna een kwart van het deelnemersveld. Daaronder ook zijn voor Australië startende echtgenote Lyndal Oatley.

Zij nemen het op tegen onder andere Lone Bang Larsen met Fitou L en Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén met Don Auriello. Voor Nederland staan Aat van Essen met MacRider Premier, Hans Peter Minderhoud met Glock’s Romanov en Edward Gal met Glock’s Voice.

Afgelopen weekend werd in Wierden de derde selectie verreden voor het basisspringen van Jumping Amsterdam. Er werd hard gestreden om een felbegeerde startplek te bemachtigen voor de finales op donderdag 23 januari in de Amsterdam RAI. Bovendien ontvingen de winnaars van elke klasse een exclusieve Jumping Amsterdam.

Jumping Amsterdam feliciteert de combinaties die een startbewijs hebben bemachtigd!

Afgelopen weekend vonden in Genemuiden, Liempde en Delft de Subtopwedstrijden plaats die golden als selectie voor Jumping Amsterdam. De felbegeerde startbewijzen voor de Prix St. Georges-rubriek op donderdagavond 23 januari in de RAI werden in de wacht gesleept door Femke Beljon met Zoraïda (v.Painted Black), Janneke Punte met Feinsliebchen (v.Florestan I), Daniëlle Heijkoop met Kingsley Badari (v.Gribaldi), Theo Hanzon met Vloet’s Victory (v.Jazz), Joyce Lenaerts met Showboy (v.Showstar) en Peter de Boer met Amazing Comeback (v.Negro).

Selectie Genemuiden
Genemuiden trapte op zaterdag af met de eerste selectiewedstrijd. Femke Beljon reed haar merrie Zoraïda (v.Painted Black) in de Lichte Tour naar een duidelijke overwinning van 72,96%. Verrast zei de amazone: “Zora liep fijn, we hadden geen grote fouten. Ik probeerde bij elke oefening het maximale eruit te halen. Maar ik miste met haar het wedstrijdritme, omdat ze een wedstrijdpauze van drie maanden had gehad. Het is allemaal heel snel gegaan met haar; we reden elk nieuw seizoen wel weer een klasse hoger op een kampioenschap. Ze had deze pauze echt even nodig en het pakt nu goed uit.” Tweede (69,61%) werd Janneke Punte met Feinsliebchen (v.Florestan I) . Zij verdiende met deze prestatie ook een startplaats voor Jumping Amsterdam.

Selectie Delft
In Delft reed Daniëlle Heijkoop afgelopen zondag haar Kingsley Badari (v.Gribaldi) naar een ruime overwinning met 76,71%. Daniëlle had vlak na het opstappen even een fris paard onder haar. Ze lacht: “Hij was net geschoren en we gingen buiten losrijden, waar het nog best fris was. De proef ging heel fijn en de aanleuning was mooi constant. We scoorde voornamelijk in het galopgedeelte heel hoog, met meerdere achten voor pirouettes en series. Voor het een-na-laatste onderdeel van de proef, waarbij onder andere de harmonie beoordeeld wordt, hadden we zelfs een negen! Badari heeft veel aanleg voor het zwaardere werk, maar is pas zeven.” Op de tweede plaats met 73,75% eindigde Theo Hanzon. Hij zadelde zijn Jazz-nakomeling Vloet’s Victory.

Selectie Liempde
In Liempde behaalden twee combinaties een score in de zeventig procent. Joyce Lenaerts liet zien dat haar Showboy (v. Showstar) goed bevestigd is op dit Lichte Tour-niveau: 73.29% was de beloning voor een harmonieuze proef. Als kers op de taart bemachtigde ook zij een startbewijs voor Jumping Amsterdam, evenals de nummer twee, Peter de Boer met de stoere merrie Amazing Comeback (v.Negro).

De zes geselecteerde deelnemers starten op donderdagavond 23 januari in de Prix. St. George-rubriek in Amsterdam, dit aantal wordt nog aangevuld met vier wildcards. De beste zes combinaties plaatsen zich vervolgens voor de kür Intermediaire I, op zaterdag 25 januari, direct voorafgaand aan de Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Qualifier.

AMMERZODEN (KNHS) – De eerste wedstrijd van de KNHS-Para Dressuur Trophy 2013-2014, mogelijk gemaakt door Rabobank Foundation, startte met een groot deelnemersveld bij de Gelderse Boys in Ammerzoden. Frank Hosmar zette met zijn Alphaville (v.Sandreo) de hoogste dagscore neer.

Frank Hosmar won afgelopen zomer met Alphaville tijdens het CHIO in Rotterdam de finale van de KNHS Para Dressuur Trophy 2012-2013. In Ammerzoden wist Frank opnieuw te overtuigen. De ruiter uit Haarle overschreed als enige de 70% grens, met Alphaville behaalde hij 73,57% in grade IV en met Wallstreet Shuffle (v.Polansky) werd hij tweede met 70,30%. Het niveau lag hoog, plaats drie ging namelijk met een minimaal verschil naar Sabine Peters met Paroseka (v.Polytraum) met 69,94%. Hosmar reed de tweede proef alleen met Wallstreet Shuffle en wist ook deze te winnen, hij werd opnieuw gevolgd door Peters met Paroseka en Ellen van den Berg met Showdiva.

In Grade III was Sanne Voets de grote prijzenverzamelaar. Ze won de teamtest met Vedet PB (v.Florestan I) met 69,61% en werd derde met haar ‘nieuwe’ troef Zoya Sollenburg (v.Métall) met 67,76%. In de individuele proef werd ze eerste en tweede, maar nu stond Zoya Sollenburg aan kop. Tessa Baaijens- van de Vrie reed met Riana (v.Darlington) alleen de team test en werd daarmee tweede met 69,08%.

Grades I en II werden in handicap verreden. De jury bestaande uit mevrouw Ruiter-Bakker en mevrouw Hees zaten goed op een lijn. In de team test won Rixt van de Horst met de Gribaldi-nakomeling Uniek de proef door van beide juryleden 68,24% te ontvangen. Ook Gert Bolmer kreeg twee keer exact dezelfde score. Met Vorman werd hij tweede met 67,06 % en eerste in de individuele proef met 67,43%.

De volgende selectiewedstrijd van de KNHS-Para Dressuur Trophy wordt 7 december verreden in Zuidwolde. Na deze tweede selecties zal duidelijk zijn wie zich gekwalificeerd heeft voor de kwalificatiewedstrijd van de KNHS Para dressuur Trophy tijdens Jumping Amsterdam.

Defending champions, Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg and the super-stallion Damon Hill NRW, swept to a glorious victory at the second leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage 2013/2014 series on home turf in Stuttgart today. “It was unbelievable! I was speechless when I came out of the arena!” said the 31 year old rider who posted a personal-best Freestyle score of 89.775 at the end of a spectacular test.

The golden girls of German dressage were all in fine form this afternoon, and the four members of the side that clinched the team title at this summer’s Blu Hors FEI European Dressage Championships in Herning, Denmark were holding the top four places as the competition drew to a close. But Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven spoiled the party just a little when, last to go with Don Auriello, she slotted into third, behind runners-up Isabell Werth and El Santo NRW, and pushing Fabienne Lutkemeier and D’Agostino down to fourth and Kristina Sprehe and Desperados FRH into fifth place in the final analysis. Today however confirmed once again that German Dressage is in great shape, and a colossal power to be reckoned with.

And that was further reinforced by the performance of yet another promising newcomer to the top level of the sport. Jessica von Bredow-Werndl has all the credentials to suggest that she has what it takes, and the 27-year-old former Junior and Young Rider double-champion and holder of multiple German national titles steered Unee BB into seventh place today, close behind The Netherlands’ Patrick van der Meer and Uzzo.

Great afternoon of sport
The Stuttgart crowd knew they were in for a great afternoon of sport, and they enjoyed every moment of it with generous applause for all-comers while not holding back on their opinion of the Ground Jury’s decisions. “It’s all good for the sport” said today’s Judge at C, Germany’s Katrina Wuest, who joined with The Netherlands’ Ghislain Fouarge (at E), Denmark’s Hans Christian Matthiesen (at H), Italy’s Vincenzo Truppa (at M) and Poland’s Wojtek Markowski (at B) in deciding their winners.

Von Bredow-Werndl took the lead with some lovely work from her 12-year-old by Gribaldi when seventh to go of the 14 starters. But her mark of 76.225 would be well short of the winning one at the end of the day.

Van der Meer squeezed her out when posting 76.350 before the Germans got seriously into their stride. Going fifth from last, Kristina Sprehe and Desperados FRH went into the lead with 77.750 only to be immediately demoted by a brilliant performance from Herning team-mate and multiple champion Isabell Werth.

The 44-year old double FEI World Cup™ Dressage champion was at her vintage best as she powered through a test full of determination and energy. Werth always rides as if her life depends on it, but today’s effort was particularly pleasing as both she, and Madeleine Winter-Schulze’s El Santo NRW, were very definitely at ease with each other as they bounced, swung and danced to the strains of some of David Bowie’s greatest hits. It was no surprise when the crowd went wild as they finished with a flourish. El Santo, whose ears were pricked throughout the performance, seemed to be smiling just as widely as his rider while their fans roared their approval.

A loud hush
A loud hush descended on the arena however as Langehanenberg set off with Damon Hill. You could hear a pin drop as they executed their movements to near-perfection, and it was clear from the start that this was a test that was going somewhere big. The symmetry between horse and rider was spell-binding. As Langehanenberg commented afterwards she has come to the stage with this horse where they now have a mutual understanding. “He works with me and he wants to be good. He tries so hard to please me – it felt so good the whole way through, I mean really good, and I really felt we had no mistake, not even a slight mistake” she said afterwards.

The Ground Jury clearly felt very much the same as the scores went up showing colossal Artistic marks – Poland’s Wojtek Markowski awarding 90.625 and Denmark’s Hans Christian Matthiesen awarding 92.625. Their final total score of 89.775 was a sensation.

It wasn’t an easy task for another Herning team-mate, Fabienne Lutkemeier, to withstand the wall of sound that was still reverberating around the arena when second-last to go, but she also gave a great account of herself when posting 78.400 with D’Agostino FRH. Last in however, Vilhelmson-Silfven bettered that by almost four marks to bring the competition to a close. The Swedish rider was delighted with her mark of 82.325 which placed her third in the toughest of company and is very happy with the progress being made by the 11-year-old Don Auriello who continues to grow in confidence and ability.

“I’m really pleased with him, he has developed and matured a lot more and now I can take the power that he shows in the warm-up into the arena with me. He’s so self-assured now, and loves the audience and the atmosphere. That makes a big difference to the kind of performances you can produce” she pointed out.

Vilhelmson-Silfven plans to compete at the next leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage series which takes place near her home in Stockholm in two weeks’ time. After that, Don Auriello will be enjoying some Florida sunshine. “We will go to the US just before Christmas” the Swedish rider explained. “It will be much nicer for him than a cold winter in Stockholm!”

Really fantastic competition
At today’s press conference, Stuttgart Event Director, Gotthilf Riexinger, pointed out “we saw a really fantastic competition from all of the riders, I am very happy. Congratulations to Helen Langehanenberg. Helen’s previous best was of 88.26% in Gothenburg, and today she received 89.7%. I genuinely believed she was going to get a bit over 90, but I think the judges were correct”.

Langehanenberg interrupted him, joking “it’s good, it keeps me hungry!”

She talked about what Damon Hill has been up to since helping her to take European team gold and individual silver in Herning this summer. “He hasn’t been doing much dressage work, he was out in the field and did a little bit of trotting and cantering, we really only started properly again three weeks ago so he’s very happy and fresh.” The defending champion is unsure how much more her stallion will do in the near future. “The planning still has to be done for the winter months, but we will do at least one more qualifier, maybe two, I’m not sure yet” she explained.

She continued, “I enjoyed it today, and Dami did too, the more people the better where both of us are concerned and the crowd was huge today. For the rest of the winter now we have to stay fit and healthy and keep up the work, but without doing too much.” And asked about her expectations for the defence of her title at the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage final in Lyon, France next April, she replied simply – “I’m really looking forward to it – bring it on!”

Aansluitend daarop vindt de Masterclass plaats onder leiding van niemand minder dan internationaal jurylid Adriaan Hamoen die de beoordeelde proef gezamenlijk gaat doorspreken. Tot slot is er een exclusieve rondleiding met een kijkje achter de schermen van Jumping Amsterdam!

By Cindy TimmerKoos de Ronde (NED), the reigning FEI World Cup™ Driving champion, won the first leg of the new season at Hannover (GER). The Flying Dutchman got off to a brilliant start and stayed ahead of his strongest challengers, Boyd Exell (AUS) and IJsbrand Chardon (NED).

The season opener in the Hannover Messe came down to an exciting battle between the three top drivers, and even at this early stage, they pushed each other to the maximum giving promise of an exciting season ahead.

Boyd Exell set the fastest time in the Winning Round, but unexpectedly had a knock down. Second starter IJsbrand Chardon used a new leader in his team to increase his speed and drove a clear round, but was slightly slower than Exell.

Last man in, Koos de Ronde knew he couldn’t afford to make any mistakes and kept his head clear. The tension grew amongst the many enthusiastic spectators in Hannover as De Ronde drove at top speed through the much-praised course, designed by German O-course designer Dr Wolfgang Asendorf. The crowd cheered as never before when De Ronde, who also drove a new leader horse in his four-in-hand, was crowned the winner after a clear round.
